Warehouse Expansion: NAHCO embarks on N1.2bn project

Nigeria Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) has  embarked on its warehouse expansion project which is expected to be completed at the end of March 2011.

The project is worth of N1.2 billion naira. Speaking to aviation correspondents during the foundation laying ceremony at the Nahco compound, the Chairman, Board of Directors of Nahco aviance, Senator Ike Nwachuku affirmed that the expansion of the warehouse was meant to boost a seamless cargo processing.

The Retired General who noted that the ultra modern cargo warehouse would be built to meet up with the current trend in technology that is revolves around the world stressed that the expansion of the warehouse would help in achieving market repositioning as well as enshrining of  best industry practices that would position Nigeria aviation industry amongst its counterparts in the world.

“Our business strategy for having an automated cargo warehouse is to facilitate seamless cargo processing in the most professional manner and with integrity. We have painstakingly taken time to work and perfect everything that has to do with this project. In doing this, we engaged consultants of international repute who have carried out similar project in Ethiopia and the Middle East“ he said.

Nwachukwu, who stressed that the expansion of the ultra modern warehouse was planned to be completed in the next five months, said that the expansion at completion would add value to infrastructural facilities at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Lagos.

The Former Minister of External Affair further enumerated the benefits that would accrue to the aviation industry at the completion of the warehouse expansion project come March 2011 noting that at completion, the warehouse would create a mechanical handling and automated system of cargo handling.

The former presidential candidate noted that the warehouse would also create a special storage room for dangerous goods and valuables as well as improve the service delivery of Nahco Aviance in its capacity to handle large quantum of cargo and to effectively ensure that only authorized person could gain access to the warehouse storage facilities.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Nahco, Mr Bates Sarki Sule said that the expansion of the ultra modern warehouse would bring a total transformation of Nahco Aviance as such move was bent on restructuring its manpower as well as strengthening its internal processes by expanding its business scope.

He affirmed that cargo handling was an important aspect of ground handling business stressing that with the completion of the warehouse, there would be a lot of revenue that would be accruing to the company.

Expressing his gratitude to Nwachuku for laying the foundation for the expansion of the ultra- modern warehouse, Mr Sule affirmed that the warehouse would help a lot in upgrading the infrastructural facilities and seamless cargo processes in the aviation industry.
