By Dapo Akinrefon
A COALITION of political forces in Uyo Senatorial District, comprising Uyo Senatorial District Elders Council, Conference of Village Heads, Forum of Paramount Rulers, Itu-Ibiono Ibom  Elders Forum and Nsit Atai Stakeholders, has rejected the bid by Senator Effiong Bob to go back to the Senate for the third time on the district’s ticket.

The group said that the representation of the senatorial district at the National Assembly  in 2011, will shift to Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency from Etinan Federal Constituency, which has represented the district at the Senate in the past eight years.

Senator Effiong, who comes from Etinan Federal Constituency, has represented Uyo Senatorial District for eight years.

Addressing newsmen, chairman of Uyo Senatorial District Elders Council, Major Gen. Edet Akpan (rtd), said “the

council and indeed the entire Uyo Senatorial District frown at and completely reject any third term ambition by an individual for the Uyo Senatorial District seat in the Senate. The policy of zoning should be upheld in all elective offices within the senatorial district.”

“The Council having reviewed several petitions before it on the issue of third term ambition in the district, noted that some areas would wait for a minimum of 36 years or 108 years respectively to be accommodated.”

“Accordingly, the Council called for peaceful co-existence among politicians in the district and warned aspirants to seek endorsement from their constituencies on the basis of their performance,” it added.
