ABUJA – Management of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, Tuesday, rejected plea by Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, to use of one of its meeting rooms, following the expiration of the time, the Ministry had originally paid for.
The Minister, who hosted the Cross Border Diseases meeting, declared open earlier in the day by Vice President Namadi Sambo, had returned for the second session of the event, but was informed by the Hotel management that the time paid for by the Ministry had elapsed.
Despite pleas, officials of the Hotel, led by an expatriate manager, came into the meeting room filled with guests, including delegates from international organizations, and began to dismantle the tables and chairs.
The Minister, who appeared visibly embarrassed, tried to plead with the Hotel management for understanding, but was promptly rebuffed and informed that, the Nigerian Police is scheduled to use the same meeting room in a matter of minutes.
The officials continued to empty the hall, leaving behind only the table and chair used by the Minister while the event was moved to Benue hall , a much smaller hall.
