Yenagoa—Worried by the sliding fortunes of the nation currency, Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State has charged the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to take more steps to strengthen the value of the naira.
Governor Sylva, made the call when the Yenagoa Branch Controller of CBN, Prince B.Udoh-Utun called on him in his office.
Represented by his Deputy, Chief Werinipre Seibarugu, Governor Sylva, said that the Central Bank has helped the country’s economy through its reforms, stressing that they have helped to entrench sanity in the banking sector.
He called on the apex bank to assist the state in its economic drive, adding that the establishment of a branch of the bank in Yenagoa, will act as a catalyst in the overall growth of the state.
The Governor noted that commercial banks in the state go to Rivers State for cash, adding that the coming of CBN will permanently put an end to that problem and also save them from the risks and dangers they encounter on such journeys.
He commended the CBN for setting up an office in the state assuring them of his administration’s full support and assistance.
Earlier, the Yenagoa Branch Controller of CBN, Prince B.U. Udoh_Utun said that the main reason for the visit was to register their presence in the state with the government.
Prince Udoh_Utun said CBN is in the state for economic reasons and have since started operations in September.
He thanked the government for giving them a building, assuring the Governor of CBN’s willingness to partner with the government and Bayelsans for the economic growth of the state.
