Despite the reinstatement of the Nigeria Football Federation board, a group known as Credible Football Elections Organization, has called on president Goodluck Jonathan to effect changes in the National Sports Commission (NSC) if sanity must return to the sports sector.
The group which is led by cerebral lawyer Barrister Iyk Igbokwe in a release made available to the media in Lagos stated that the suspension of Nigeria by world soccer governing body, FIFA is a clear indication that the sports commission with Ibrahim Issa Bio as chairman has failed the nation.
“Jonathan should not fold his arms and allow the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) to keep embarrassing the nation. We saw FIFA’s hammer coming and we promptly warned Mr President about it in a memo we sent to him. We have been vindicated. The only way forward is for the president to act fast and string changes in the sports sector.”
The group said it was unfortunate that Nigeria was now being seen as a law breaking nation given the way the NSC had taken over the running of football despite the conduct of a credible NFF election.
“It is only in Nigeria that a minister and his Director General will call a meeting to decide when a new soccer season will start and decide whether or not clubs should be relegated.
“It is clear that this is the function of the NFF board,” the group stated, even as they traced the Super Eagles failure in South Africa to the Commission and the Presidential Task Force (PTF).
