STRIKING members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the state-owned universities in the five south east states are to meet with the six-man committee appointed by the governors of the affected states on Tuesday to find ways of resolving the crisis that has kept the universities closed for over three months.
Coordinator of the strike, Dr. Simon Ochendo, said in a live television programme in Awka yesterday that ASUU members had decided to attend the meeting in Enugu because they are desirous of finding a solution to the problem.
He however insisted that the affected governors must meet the demands of ASUU in the interest of education in the South East, adding that using intimidation on ASUU members would not solve the problem.
Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State had earlier said that in as much as he regrets the lingering strike action which had kept students out of schools for a long time, the state government could not be forced to pay what it cannot afford.
