BENIN—Edo State Governor, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday, in Benin City, Edo State, raised alarm that the way politicians in the country were unnecessarily heating up the polity, could make one-man-one vote a mirage in the 2011 polls.
The Governor, advised the political class and the entire citizenry to reflect on the unfolding political developments, especially on the choice of language being used by politicians, some of who, he said had no programmes to develop and move the nation forward.
Oshiomhole also lamented, that workers in the country were increasingly being exposed to life threatening and other hazardous environment at their work places and advised the Federal Government, employers of labour and industrial unions to pay serious attention to occupational safety as being done to the issue of wages in the country, saying it was only the living that earn wages.
He spoke at the opening of a two-day seminar with the theme “Safety at Work: Issues and Challenges” put together by Labour Writers Association of Nigeria, LAWAN, in Benin.
He noted that instead of issues of the development, the political class was busy, talking about zoning and capturing of states, as if the nation was at war.
He called on Nigerians to be vigilant and defend their votes, because “if we get it wrong in 2011, Nigeria may find it very difficult to survive the failure.”
He lamented that workers in the country were increasingly being exposed to life threatening and other hazardous environment at their work places.
