Jos — Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State has declared today as a public holiday to enable the people give President Goodluck Jonathan who is on a two-day working visit a rousing welcome.
In a broadcast to the people yesterday, he said the state was lucky to be the first to host the president after the country’s golden jubilee independence celebration.
According to the governor, the “public holiday is to enable citizens give Mr. President a rousing reception because government considered it a special honour as Mr. President’s first state visit in this Nigeria Jubilee year.
“My dear compatriots, as we prepare to receive President Goodluck Jonathan, I urge us to not only sustain the cleanliness of the state but also improve on it.
The hallmark of true plateau people is hospitality; we are encouraged to exhibit this legendary peaceful and receptive virtue to Mr. President and his entourage.”
He appealed to citizens not to deface the streets especially along projects to be commissioned with posters.
The state capital is wearing a new look with the removal of campaign posters that hitherto dotted the streets and the clearing of bushes and refuse all over the state capital and other parts of the state scheduled to be visited by the president.
