By Ola Ajayi
IBADAN—GOVERNOR Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State has told the new General Officer Commanding, 2 Mechanised Division, Nigeria Army, Ibadan, Brig.-Gen. Muhammed Abubakar to regard activities of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, near the barrack as illegal.

He said the union had been proscribed due to the mayhem it unleashed on people in the state.

He said this while welcoming the new GOC in the governor’s office Wednesday. He told the GOC that though he had banned the activities of the union, some members still carry out some illegal duties near Odogbo Barracks.

Due to the alleged proscription, he said the Army GOC should regard them as illegal, adding that in spite of the violence carried out by the proscribed union members, the state still remained peaceful.

For peace to reign perpetually in the state, he expressed his administration readiness to work together with all the security agencies in the state. Abubakar commended the governor for the support given to the military in the state in discharging its duties.
