ENUGU—THE caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Enugu North Senatorial zone, (Nsukka zone), has denied involvement in the recent endorsement of Governor Sullivan Chime by some stakeholders of the party in the zone as the sole candidate of the party for the 2011 gubernatorial election in Enugu State.
In a statement issued after its meeting at Milipat Hotels, Nsukka, the PDP caucus decried the action of the leaders of thought and some party stalwarts and political leaders in the zone who announced the endorsement of the governor, saying the decision did not represent the true position of Nsukka people.
A senatorial aspirant for Enugu North and legal luminary, Chief Michael Ajogwu, SAN, declared the reported endorsement of Governor Chime by the zone as “a charade stage- managed by the governor’s aides”.
Ajogwu, who acknowledged that he was present at the Nsukka meeting where Chime was purportedly adopted as the sole governorship candidate of PDP, declared that he was opposed to the decision but was not allowed to speak as Chime’s aides had a field day and were not ready to entertain any contrary view.
Some PDP stalwarts from the zone, including members of the National and State Assemblies from the zone, local government chairmen and party executives, had at a meeting, enjoined Nsukka people to join forces with their brothers and sisters from other senatorial districts to enthrone a responsible and people-oriented leadership in the state, adding that the position of Nsukka on the 2011 governorship race would be known after wide consultations.
