Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, said the World Bank has committed $190 million for the completion of its transport project.
LAMATA Chief Executive, Olufunso Elulade, said this when he led a 10-man delegation on an official visit to the Nigeria High Commission in London.
He said: “We (LAMATA) have been given another 190 million dollars for another four to five years to complete the Lagos State Urban Transport Project, LUTP 11.”
Noting that the LUTP I gave birth to LAMATA, he added that the LUTP II loan would include road rehabilitations, construction and additional BRT.
On the funding of the Bus Rapid Transport, BRT, he pointed out that it was untrue that the World Bank loan financed the outfit.
Elulade said: “The agency initially used the state funds to build the BRT, and when the World Bank came, they loved the idea and expressed willingness to fund additional BRT scheme.
“Currently, the Federal, Lagos State governments and the World Bank are negotiating that.”
