Indications have surfaced that the 10th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship will be keenly contested for judging from the quality of players who will feature in the ITF approved tourney in Nigeria.
The competition, sponsored by Etisalat and FCMB, is scheduled to hold from October 15-30 at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Court Onikan, Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the entry lists of the tourney placed on the website of ITF, Slovakia female star, Zuzana Kucova, who won the singles title in 2007, 2008 and 2009, will be making her fourth appearance in Lagos, battling for points and some few prize money.
In the men’s singles, top seed in the category last year, Romanian Catalin-Ionut Gard is staging a comeback. The 29 years old player, who won the double’s event last year with John-Paul Fruttero, is coached by his brother, Bogdan. Fruttero is also coming for the tourney this year.
Also registered for the tournament to fight for the $15,000 prize money are Holland’s Boy Westerhof, who won one of the Futures in the 2008 edition. He was closed to winning Futures 1 last year but was stopped in the final by Moroccan El Amrani Reda.
