Kidnap kingpin nabbed in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT—A leader of a kidnap gang has been arrested in Etche area of Rivers State. Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Dr Mrs Rita Inoma-Abbey, said the suspect led a gang to abduct one Emmanuel Nwokocha  on April 10, this year.

The hostage, according to the Police, was still in  custody of the kidnapers as at press  time.
The Police spokesperson, said the gang leader was arrested in Eberi Omuma community in Etche Local Government Area of the state.

“He confessed committing the offence as the leader of the gang. The anti-kidnapping unit of the police is still interrogating the suspect to trace the victim, other culprits and to also recover their weapons,” the Police PRO said.

Continuing, she said the Police also shot dead an armed robber during a gun exchange between the police and a gang of armed robbers. She said the robbers had snatched a Toyota Hillux belonging to MTN. “We recovered the vehicle,” she added.
