ICHR, Obioha condemn blast in Abuja

The Ijaw Council for Human Rights (ICHR) in its reaction described the blast as a slap on the nation’s security forces.
Founding father of  Ijaw Council for Human Rights, (ICHR) Comrade Patterson Ogon said, “The Abuja blast casts a deep slur on the effective and intelligence nature of our security apparatus. It is a worrisome development happening in Abuja on the 50th anniversary. Government needs to be more proactive in the handling of issues in the country.”
Coordinator of South_South Progressive Element Union, Comrade Joseph Ambakederemo, a minority right activist and advocate of transparency in governance berated the perpetrators of  the  heinous act describing their action as unacceptable especially when Nigerians were celebrating the country’s 50th independence anniversary.

“This is unacceptable, whoever or whatever group that is behind this dastardly act is totally unacceptable. The perpetrators should know that such acts will only end up uniting us all in the face of adversity. I think this is a wake up call for our security agencies as the elections are drawing near.

“If the claim by MEND is anything to go by, then these persons should be ashamed of themselves and they are not worthy to live among decent men and women.”

CHIEF Ralph Obioha, National Chairman of Justice Party, JP, yesterday,  condemned in strong terms the bomb blast that rocked the venue of the 50th Independence anniversary celebration in Abuja and called on security agencies across the country to maintain vigilance.

“It is a shocking development that does not have any excuse in the civilized world.  That at an occasion where we are celebrating the golden jubilee of our independence ,a group could contemplate smearing the image of the country in this manner is most unfortunate,” the Justice Party leader told Saturday Vanguard while reacting to the bloody incident yesterday.

He stated that “terrorism can never be the answer to the myriad of problems we have in Nigeria and men of goodwill in Nigeria should condemn in the strongest term this heinous crime against the nation.”

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state also  described the Abuja Bomb blast of yesterday as unfortunate, regretted that some unscrupulous elements were bent of giving the country a bad name at a time the country was celebrating its 50th Independence.

“Rather than join other Nigerians in reflecting about our existence this past 50 years and re_dedicating ourselves to the task of building a better Nigeria, some elements among us are bent on destroying the country,” Obi said.
