OWERRI—More than 50 traffic offenders have been prosecuted by Imo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Owerri, for violating traffic laws across the state.

The Sector Commander, Mr. Angus Obum Ibezim, explained during an interview that the offenders were arraigned before the mobile court for contravening 59 traffic laws, ranging from non-use of seat belt to use of cell phone while driving and over loading, among others.

He further explained that the exercise was part of the current efforts by the Federal Road Safety Corps High Command to implement the functions assigned to the commission by law.

“I must say that a growing number of the motoring public are now complying with traffic laws and buying into our programmes, otherwise we would have recorded more traffic offences because we know the number of personnel on the roads for this exercise,” Ibezim said.

He also expressed happiness that the rate of seat belt violation in the state had drastically declined, adding that some of the offenders accepted guilt after the charges were read to them in court.

The Sector Commander also used the opportunity to call on motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to avoid road mishaps within these ember months.
