Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, says arrangement has been made to spend N200 million on social responsibility projects in Apapa, Lagos State.
The company’s Group Managing Director, Dr Emmanuel Upkabi, disclosed this at a ceremony to mark the organisation’s 50th anniversary.
According to him, the money would be used to renovate United Christian Primary School, Apapa, Post Office and beautification of the median from Leventis Motors axis to Apapa Wharf Bus Stop.
He said that the projects were part of the company’s contributions toward making its environment of operation conducive and to improve the living standard of the people of the area, adding that the federal government should give priority attention to the key sectors of the nation’s economy like health, infrastructure, education and power for the realisation of Nigeria Vision 20:2020.
“Except government takes urgent steps to improve these sectors, the goals and objectives of the vision would not be realiseable. As a company into haulage system, we spent a lot of money on the maintenance of our trucks as a result of bad roads,’’ he said.
He said that the company spent huge amount on capacity building of its staff because of the falling standard of the nation’s education, adding that the company uses about 100,000 litres of diesel daily to power its production machines to ensure delivery of quality products to customers in view of the epileptic power supply.
Upkabi, urged the government to fast track the revitalisation of the railway system to boost distribution of goods and services and to streamline the multiple taxes and levies and improve the power supply to enable the industry to thrive.
Chairman, Apapa Local Government area, Mr. Ayodeji Joseph, said that effective corporate social responsibility was necessary to assist the government to achieve its set goals of improving the living standard of people.
