Edo is broke, PDP alleges

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, has declared that the state is broke,  alleging that the move by the state government to source  N30billion bond from the capital market was another attempt to mortgage the future of the people of the state.

The state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who declared this, yesterday, at a rally where the party received a former Commissioner of police in Delta State, Mr Jacob Oshomogor and over 1,000 people into the party,  also accused the Governor Adams Oshiomhole led- government of reckless spendings on frivolous trips and projects.

But reacting swiftly, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Anslem Ojezua, described the claim that the state was broke as untrue, saying that Orbih “is ignorant in economics” of state policies and programmes “because his party, the PDP is used to arbitrariness and telling of lies.

“How can they say the state is broke when salaries are being paid, pensioners are receiving their pension  and contracts are being paid for?” he asked.

Orbih alleged that the ACN administration had failed the citizens by not living up to its promises to the people. He expressed the resolve of the PDP to take over the reins of governance in 2012 in order to provide the electorate,  basic democracy dividends.
