ASABA—THE Orogodo Bridge in Agbor, Delta State, has collapsed, throwing residents of the area into commotion.

As a result of the collapse, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, paid an on the spot assessment visit to tha area and promised to reconstruct the bridge.

The collapsed old Orogodo Bridge in Agbor, had served as a temporary relief to the people of the area, pending the completion of the new one under construction.

The Governor, who  directed that the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge should commence immediately, sympathised with the people  and assured that efforts would be intensified to complete the new bridge to bring permanent relief to them.

He, however, promised that the old Boji Boji Agbor Road would be dualised while the dredging of the Orogodo River would be widened to check the erosion menace in the area.

He described the incident as unfortunate, attributing the collapse to the heavy down pour and erosion.
He further directed that heavy duty vehicles should not be allowed to use the temporary bridge so that it would serve the desired purpose.

Meanwhile, community leaders, landlord associations in Delta State have been called upon to apply for the grading of their roads, even as the ongoing drainage system in Asaba urban has reached an advanced stage.

The Agency Manager in charge of monitoring department of Delta State Direct Labour Agency, DLA,  Mr. Eugene Onwuka, told reporters that the call was sequel to a directive from the Governor, asking the Agency “to commence intensive grading and upgrading of major earth roads across the state”.

“Following the directive”, he said, “the Agency was compelled to call on Deltans to send their applications concerning affected roads, and all applications should be addressed to the office of the Director-General of the Agency and should be treated on first come first serve basis.”

It will be recalled that the state government sometimes ago, distributed multi-million naira construction equipment to DLA and other agencies to enable them improve on  service delivery.
