Bauchi lawmakers endorse IBB

Bauchi—THE presidential ambition of former Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida got a boost on Saturday as the Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Babayo Garba Gamawa who represented the Governor, Isa Yuguda publicly approved his aspirations, just as about 20 members of the State House of Assembly also endorsed Babangida with an assurance to vote for him during the PDP primaries in line with the ‘agreement’ on power rotation in the ruling PDP.

While receiving the former military president at the Government House, Babayo Garba Gamawa said that, “the name IBB in this country needs no introduction because you have done a lot for the good of the country. Every nook and cranny of the country has felt your positive impact as the only Military President who worked with elected representatives of the people which has made you to know the value of democracy.”

Gamawa added that in the eight years rule of IBB, the country witnessed a lot of drastic transformation which according to him, will be repeated if he is re-elected as the next President come 2011 under the ruling PDP.

He said: “At this moment of insecurity when everything has deteriorated in the country, we need somebody who knows the in and out of the security of the country, and IBB does.”

He further added that, “we need an experience hand in the country and IBB is one, we need a man of integrity, a man who talks and does what he says, IBB is one, he said he was going to quit for there to be peace in the country when he was Military President and he did when the time came for him to do so, we need such men as our leader in this country.”

The Deputy Governor also said that, “in Nigeria of today there is no security and things have gone bad and we need somebody to come and fix it so that things we will be good again, that person of IBB, we must ensure that he is there for us.”

Earlier in his address, the PDP 2011 Presidential aspirant declared that he was one of the people with other eminent Nigerians who saved former President Olusegun Obasanjo from been impeached by the then Ghali Umar Na’Abba led House of Representatives wanted to impeach him for some impeachable offences he committed as the President saying, “history would have been made had he been impeached but we intervened and he was saved from that embarrassment.”

Ibrahim Babangida also said that he came out to aspire for the office of an elected President come 2011 to enable him do more for the development of the country saying that, “we have done it before and we can do it again, we want to contribute to the development of the country by re_fixing all that have gone wrong now. Nigeria need an experience, detribalized person to put things right again.”

He then assured that as soon as he is elected as the President, “Bauchi state will be first state I will officially visit because today you have shown me love, acceptance and given the courage to move on positively with my ambition, we will ensure that there is even development in the country if we are elected.”
