ABA—ABA branch of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, has thrown its weight behind call for the declaration of a state of emergency in Abia State by its National President, Mr. Joseph Daudu, saying his call was justified.
A statement signed by chairman of Aba NBA, Mr. Uche Awa, noted that though a military task force had come to restore security and order in the state, especially in Aba, the call by Daudu was justified when it was made.
Awa berated the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ume Kalu, for attacking Daudu, stressing that Aba branch “unequivocally stand by the call made by the president of NBA.
“The unfortunate facts upon which this call for state of emergency was made are verifiable and are common knowledge to every resident of Abia State, particularly residents of Aba.”
He said Daudu, as NBA President, did not speak for himself but for Nigerian lawyers, and chided the commissioner for saying he spoke for himself.
According to Awa, by saying that, it means the commissioner does not understand the workings of NBA and is not abreast of the constitution of NBA.
“The time has come when public office appointees should stop playing politics at the expense of lives and well being of honest and hard working citizenry of Abia State, whose public trust they claim to be holding,” Awa warned.
