Sports reforms: Transport award to energise Bio

The Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Alhaji Ibrahim Isa Bio during the week got an incentive to continue his reform of the sports sector as stakeholders, staff and other members of the Transport family stormed his office at the Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja to present him with the Gold Achievers’ Award awarded him by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Buildcraft West Africa during the Transport Week 2010 Expo

A letter signed on behalf of the Honurable Minister of Transport by one Ledom Umekwe, read ‘‘The Federal Ministry of Transport have selected Alhaji Ibrahim Bio as the winner of the Platinum Award as the Golden Achiever of The Year in recognition of your sky high strides and cutting edge development and advancement in the Transport Ministry’’.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony Miss Ann Izi, General Manager-Corporate Services of Buildcraft West Africa (Event Managers of Transport Week) said the 2010 edition of the Transport Week would be incomplete if the award had not been presented to Bio.

Ms. Izi recalled that when Bio was appointed Transport Minister, some stakeholders in the sector kicked against his appointment, ‘‘they called him a squared peg in a round hole’’.

But after a few weeks in office, Izi recalled that all the stakeholders started singing a new tune,
‘‘Bio not only brought together all the stakeholders in transport and unites them; he recorded many achievements during his short stay.

They include the dredging of the lower River Niger in Lokoja, Kogi State which is still ongoing, he got the Ports working, and started the revitalization of the Nigeria Railway among others achievements.

Before he was moved to sports, all the stakeholders not only respect, accept and loved him, they all accept his programme and are now following his footsteps, this is our own way of saying thank you and to encourage him to continue the good work he is doing in sports’’ conclude Izi.

Responding, an elated Bio thanks all the stakeholders in Transports, the present minister of transport Yusuf Sulemain , Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and other members of the family. Bio stated that the award will forever hold a special place in his heart because it came after he had left the transport ministry.
