LAGOS—Nigerians have been advised to always take part in regular physical exercise and movement to enhance life expectancy and general body wellness.
Chief Executive Officer/Clinical Director, Preferred Physiotherapy Clinic, Dr. Paschal Ogugua Mogbo gave the advice yesterday in Lagos during a free cardiovascular and health screening organised by the clinic for residents of Alagomeji, Sabo, Adekunle and its environs as part of this year’s World Physiotherapy Day, with the theme, Movement for Health.
According to Mogbo, who is a retired Colonel, the two-day free health screening was part of the clinic’s Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, for the people within its operational base and environs.
He said: “Cardiovascular and other life style diseases such as hypertension, stroke, diabetes, obesity as well as eye conditions, among others, are in the increase and are major causes of sudden death.”
But the good news is that they can be prevented or reversed if detected early.”
He advised against the dangers of sedentary life style and improper diet intake, which he said, constituted major health risk, adding: “Prescribed activities like regular exercise and movement can reduce or even reverse or prevent chronic diseases and disability in ageing adults.”
The event is supported by Pfizer Nigeria, Me Cure Health Care Ltd and Biostadt Company.
