New Partnership for Africa’’s Development (NEPAD) Business Group Nigeria, on Monday announced plans to move over one million Nigerian small entrepreneurs into the formal sector for improved access to capital. Dr Roberts Aniebo, executive secretary of NEPAD Business Group Nigeria, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that its poverty eradication initiative would be implemented under the Peers Mentoring Programme (PMP).
According to Aniebo, PMP is an international entrepreneurial empowerment programme targeting informal businesses. Aniebo said awareness campaigns would be intensified for efficient mobilisation of interested Nigerians.
“With these campaigns, people who are eager to build business capital but have no access to funds, employment, collateral and expert knowledge, will be sensitised to get out of poverty,” he said.
He said that the programme was carefully researched to create employment and reduce poverty among member countries. Aniebo urged Nigerians to take advantage of the programme because it would also expose them to improved international competitiveness.
Africa’s main problem is poverty. Poverty impacts socially, politically and economically. Lack of access to credit and employment impinge on poverty in Africa.
”PMP is meant to touch one million lives across Nigeria.
