First lady calls for equal opportunity for all children

Abuja -First Lady Patience Jonathan has called for equal opportunity for every Nigerian child to contest for the membership of the Children’s Parliament in May next year.

Jonathan made the call in Abuja at the weekend at the special sitting of the National Children‘s Parliament in commemoration of Nigeria’s 50th independence anniversary.

Jonathan, who was represented at the event by the wife of the Senate President Helen Mark said by this, children would be demonstrating to the adults that they had imbibed the principles of democracy and were willing to put it into practice.

She used the opportunity to advise the leadership of the parliament to take necessary steps in ensuring that parliamentary proceedings were conducted strictly in line with the provisions of the constitution.
