Ekpotu backs Akpabio’s 2nd term bid

By Udo Ibuot
UYO—AKWA Ibom State Deputy Governor, Engr. Patrick Ekpotu, yesterday, expressed support for the second term aspiration of Governor Godswill Akpabio.

The Deputy Governor, in a statement by his Press Secretary, Mr N. Efo, said the second term aspiration of Chief Akpabio “is a project that must be supported by all Akwa Ibom people, irrespective of tribe, creed or any other sentimental consideration.”

Ekpotu who is currently on him annual leave, and  was unable to attend the rally where Governor  Akpabio declared his intention to run for a second term in office,   based his solidarity for the Governor’s second term on performance.

Noting that Governor Akpabio has done creditably well in the areas of infrastructure development, education, health care delivery, improvement in social amenities and urban renewal, Ekpotu said, “even if the blind cannot see, they can feel and hear about the Governor’s sterling performances.”

He  emphasised that by equity, “every section of the state is entitled to the best, in terms of political position and duration in office,” adding that continuity was a must for Governor Akpabio.

“If he could achieve all he has within the last three years, then a continuous consolidation of his performances will lead Akwa Ibom to a lofty pedestal in the coming years,” he said.

While noting that he was aware of plots by some politicians to use the media to destabilize the state, through insinuations on why he was absent at the declaration, Ekpotu  enjoined all Akwa Ibom people to discountenance any such report.
