BENIN—EDO State Government has said that it will cost it over N100billion to address the problems of erosion and flooding in Benin City.
The State Commissioner for Land, Survey and Housing, Prince Clem Agba, who disclosed this at a dinner organised by the Edo Broadcasting Service, EBS, as apart of the activities to mark the 19th anniversary of the state’s creation, weekend, said that the two natural flood control channels in the city, the Ikpoba and Ogba Rivers, have been identified as channels through which flood can be channeled out of the city.
He also identified 23 catchment areas in the state capital, explaining that as part of efforts to effectively tackle the problem, plans to de-flood Benin-City when it rains had been prioritized into three.
According to him, the first priority area will include the Ogba River-Teachers’ House, Uwelu-UNIBEN Projects, saying that the design of the projects was ready just as tenders have been opened and were currently being analyzed.
