2011: North-East ‘ll vote for Jonathan – Yuguda

By Henry Umoru
ABUJA—THE Coordinator, North-East zone for President Goodluck Jonathan’s Campaign Organisation, Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State said yesterday that the people of the zone will vote massively for the president in the 2011 presidential election’ as he is the only person to have so far offered the greatest number of developmental projects to the zone.

Speaking yesterday when he hosted the North-East Joint Traders Association, Governor Yuguda said of all past presidents in Nigeria, only Jonathan had really touched the lives of the people.

According to him, President Jonathan has promised to construct an international airport in Bauchi, construct the long-standing Mambilla power plant, a refinery as well as construct a bridge at Ibbi across the Benue River that would link Bauchi, Taraba and Plateau states.

Yuguda noted that the president deserved the peoples’ support against the backdrop that he had exhibited that he loved the people, adding that if these projects come on board, they will help fast-track economic activities of the zone, as well as guarantee employment for thousands of youths in the zone.

He said: “If President Jonathan embarks on a tour of the zone, he would be received with a rousing welcome because they believe he has touched positively their lives.

“That is why we accepted the offer to serve on his campaign team and we shall work hard to convince the people to vote for him come 2011.

“You can imagine the level of economic boom in the zone if all these projects are constructed. Jonathan is a listening President. He empathises with the people. He has soft spot for people who are oppressed.

“He will help wipe away our tears. I am happy you people have noted these yourselves and I can assure you I will communicate to him your good desires and good wishes for him.

“We must appreciate Jonathan because among those who are contesting and those who have served before, none remember these things. It is out of willingness they support Jonathan and they will mobilize support for him in the entire North East.’’

Earler in his remarks, leader of the delegation, Alhaji Garba Mesuga, who described the appointment of Yuguda as zonal coordinator as quite commendable, stressed that the people of Bauchi and the entire North-East have confidence that the promises would be fulfilled upon successful election.

They promised to embark on grassroots mobilization of traders, artisans, market women, unemployed as well as farmers, whom he explained, have always stood behind their choice candidates at elections, adding that the approval for the take-over of the teaching hospital by the federal government would also guarantee improved health care for the people.
