The Badagry-Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, realised about N3,628,205,483.13 as revenue between January and July, this year.
Similarly, within the period, the Command recorded 368 seizures of contraband and smuggled goods with duty paid value, DPV, of N228,475,615.40.
The N3,628,205,483.13 the Command realised as revenue in the first seven months of this year almost doubled last year’s collection of N1,927,882,844.59 within the same period.
A breakdown of the statistics provided by the Customs Area Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Ernest Olottah, shows that the monthly revenue figure for the period this year consistently topped the corresponding months the previous year.
Olottah told Vanguard that the Customs Area Controller, CAC, Comptroller Mohammed Kura Maitama, is determined that the Command maintains an upswing in revenue collections, while upping the stakes in its anti-smuggling efforts.
