Reactions trail Abia dep gov’s resignation

Umuahia—Residents of Abia State yesterday expressed mixed feelings on the resignation of Comrade Chris Akomas as the Deputy Governor of the state last Friday.

“We got the news of Akomas resignation with rude shock,” some residents told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, while reacting to the resignation.

The residents noted that the deputy governor stood by his former party, the PPA throughout the detention of Governor Theodore Orji in Kirikiri prison by the EFCC.
One of the residents, Chuks Ekwuruke, a businessman, said: “I must say from what I have read that the deputy doesn’t deserve the humiliation.’’

“The impeachment proceeding against him is unnecessary and should have been resolved amicably between him and the governor,” Ekwuruke said.

Commenting on the issue, Mr Henry Atuloma, the state chairman of Conference of Nigeria Political Party, CNPP, said the deputy governor toed the path of honour.

“The resignation is proper because he shouldn’t in the first place defect from PPA to PDP,” he said, stressing that “this is what our leaders should do at all times.”

Atuloma, who is also NDP Chairman, said  the constitution stated that any person who defected to another party from the one that brought him to office shall lose the elected office.
