LAGOS—The Lagos State Police Command, in conjunction with National Communication Commission (NCC) and relevant GSM/Internet service providers have commenced investigation into the false alarm raised by some faceless individuals about occurrence of violent crimes within Lagos metropolis, with a view to bringing those involved to book.
One of such messages was the recent false alarm on the collapse of the Third Mainland Bridge.
Briefing newsmen yesterday on the disturbing trend, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo, said it was sad that the faceless group appeared unrelenting “in their satanic mission of spreading these mischievous mails aimed at misleading and unnerving law-abiding citizens.â€
Akpoyibo asserted that apart from damaging the integrity and confidence in the country’s IT and GSM generated communication, such false alarm could also have far reaching negative effects on the nation’s social and economic actives.
He advised Lagosians not to panic over such messages and to take advantage of the earlier toll-free emergency lines: 767 and 112 .

Akpoyibo reassured Lagosians of the Command’s resolve to maintain the record of a “downward trend in crimeâ€, particularly violent ones.
He said: “The Command is working in conjunction with the state government and other relevant stakeholders and is determined to continue to consolidate and improve on the modest achievements in the areas of crime fighting and promotion of public safety.â€
