THE Port Facility Security Officers Forum (PFSO) has decried the poor port security information management amongst security agencies, a development that could work against the overall security interest of the nation’s sea ports
Speaking at the 34th Lagos Maritime Security Zone of the forum, Mr Anakatu Subaru Chairman of the forum warned against the danger in hoarding information from one another.
Suberu noted that when any security agency in the port gets any security alerts with regards to their area of operation, they keep such information to themselves and wait for the time to act.
The forum boss explained that when all agencies and PSOs officials at the ports get the same information, there is a seamless and efficient execution of such operation.
He sighted the case of the September 11 terrorist attack on the United States which casualty was high because some agencies had information but refused to share with others.
He also urged all PSO at terminals and facilities to always carry other PSOs and agencies along where and when necessary for safer and more secured port system in Nigeria.
Members of the forum also agreed to come up with format on how the security report will look like.
Speaking in simiilar vein, the patron of the forum, Major Ajetumobo noted that security threat could spread from one terminal to another, adding that the need to alert other PSOs cannot be over emphasised.
“I urged members of this forum to share security information and reports with each other and with government security agencies when necessary.
“Security threat could come from any where, some times it comes from the water front and other unexpected places.
“We also need to forge a good relationship with some of these agencies because they could come handy in the course of the our operations.
“We need to know what is going on in our facilities and the people to whom we report also need to know what is going on†he added.
The Port Facilities Security Officers Forum is a body of security experts to ensure that the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code is implemented in terminals and other facilities.
The operations of these officers is under the guidance of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Maritime Safety and Security (PICOMMSS)
