The Ogun State government has reiterated its commitment to complete ongoing housing projects across the state before the expiration of the present administration in May 20011.
The State Commissioner for Housing, Mrs. Jokotade Odebunmi, made the declaration at a management meeting recently, in Abeokuta, where she asserted that the present administration is the state considers the provision of affordable and accessible houses as paramount.
In a press statement by the Information Officer in the Ministry, Miss Seun Oyelade, the commissioner declared that over 2000 housing units were at different levels of construction simultaneously in the state at Ibara housing estate, Asero, GTV Media village, Ajebo, Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ayetoro, Omu, Ota, Agbara, Ifo, Ijebu-ode and others, ranging from two to three bedroom apartments.
“Having started the estates, I can assure you that the only target that we have set is to ensure that we complete the projects before May 2011, including the ongoing work at the Ibara Renewal Scheme. The challenges which we have at the moment will not stop us because of the Public Private Partnership arrangement, which we have put in place,†she said.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Kunle Ayo-Vaughan, said the government had embarked on public private partnership (PPP) scheme in recent times in order to make available more housing units for the people of the state.
He added that not only had the ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with private developers but that construction work had commenced in the estates covered by the agreement, expressing confidence that the estates would be completed and delivered on schedule.
In his remark, the Ministry’s Director of Architectural Services, Mr. S.O.S Oladipo, said additional construction of eight units of three bedroom and three units of two bedroom houses at GTV media village, Ajebo, Abeokuta are also under construction.
