THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State Monday opposed the alleged dissolution of the State Executives Committee by the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party, last Friday.
The State Chapter of the party said this after an emergency meeting at the residence of Governor Gbenga Daniel, in Sagamu. The meeting was attended by leaders of the party across the 20 local governments in the state.
The leaders of the party, who described the call for the harmonization of the state executive as “illegal and unwarrantedâ€, in a statement said the NWC contradicted the relevant sections of the party’s constitution and the sections of the 1999 Constitution, that relates to the administration of political parties in the country.
The leaders emphasized that Chief Elder Joju Fadairo, who was the State Chairman of the Party prior to the dissolution of the Executive Committee emerged through a democratic means that was guided by the party’s constitution.
The meeting was well attended by party supporters including, the governor, the deputy, Alhaja Salimot Badru, Fadairo, PDP deputy chairman, Chief Moses Bankole and the secretary, Chief Pegba Otemolu, members of the state legislature and members of the state executive council.
Those who spoke at the meeting, including, Fadairo, Shoda, Chief Kayode Ogunsanya, Ogunjobi, Ajanaku, Alausa, Anisulowo, Soboyede, Bajomo, Akinwonmi and the chairman of the Association of Local Government Chairmen (ALGON) in the state, John Obafemi, unanimously condemned the development.
They reiterated their confidence in the Fadairo-led executive as the legal executive of the Ogun State chapter of the PDP and adopted the statement issued and signed by Elder Joju Fadairo
The leaders argued that the issue was still in court, adding that due-process should be followed.
The communique reads that “Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye, Prince Yemi Adefule and Alhaji Sule Onabiyi participated in the State Congresses that started in on 21st February, 2008 and emerged from their respective local governments as National Delegates that participated at the National Convention of March 8, 2008.
“Therefore we unanimously said that the purported dissolution was immoral and unconscionable for the same set of people to turn round, two years into the tenure of the present Exco, to demand for the so-called harmonisation of the PDP executive in Ogun State.
“As the democratically elected Exco of the Ogun State Chapter of the PDP, we wish to state unequivocally that while the PDP in Ogun State shall continue to remain abiding, we shall not accept illegality in any form.â€
