ABUJA — THE Federal Government yesterday withdrew the operational licence of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, OSUTECH, Okitipupa in Ondo State, following the inability of the institution to resume academic activities two years after it was granted licence.
The same fate also awaits the University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti in Ekiti State as the Federal authority is threatening to withdraw its licence after next week.
To this end, the National Universities Commission, NUC, has already communicated its decision to the governors of the affected states.
A document after an emergency meeting of the management of the NUC and made available to Vanguard, revealed that while OSUTECH got its licence withdrawn because it was yet to kick off academic activities after two years, the University of Education, Ikere-Ekiti submitted fictitious evidence to get its approval.
The letter addressed to the Visitor of Ondo State University of Science and Technology, OSUTECH, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, dated August 3, 2010 , and signed by the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Julius A. Okojie, said the Commission was concerned that OSUTECH has not commenced academic activities since it was formally recognised by the Commission in 2008.
