NAHCO to build N1.19bn shed at MMA

 By Kenneth Ehigiator

LAGOS — THE Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Limited, NAHCOAVIANCE , has concluded plans to built a new cargo shed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for an estimated cost of N1.19 billion.

Managing Director of the company, Mr Bates Sarki Sule, who disclosed this at a meeting with stakeholders in Lagos yesterday, said the project was expected to be completed in seven months.

He said the project, conceived in 2006, was based on extensive observations and studies of the existing import and export warehouses and operational processes by commissioned experts as Astria Aviation of UK and Realog Consulting firm in Germany.

According to him, the decision to build a new shed was informed by the dilapidated nature of existing one, which had been in existence for over 30 years.

“The existing warehouse in its physical state can no longer guarantee seamless cargo facilitation and quality service delivery. The present cargo process architecture and infrastructure constitute serious bottlenecks which pose serious operational constraints to the efficiency, safety and security of our cargo operations.”
