Make your votes count, Okonkwo tells Anambra residents

AWKA—Senator Annie Okonkwo, representing Anambra central in the Senate has charged all Anambra indigenes and residents to rise up and assert the supremacy of their wishes through their votes in all future elections.

He said this, weekend, in Awka during a Town Hall meeting with stake holders from his constituency.

“This is your inalienable right and the most potent way to bring attention to your needs in a democracy. Since governance in a democracy is by the majority, every Anambrarian must now resolve to exercise that franchise directly and no longer by proxy.”

During the meeting which was the third so far,  Senator Okonkwo, who gave a clear account of his legislative activities in the Senate,  noted that while he leaves it to them to pass judgment on  his performance, they can no longer afford to wait to make every of their votes count but should be invloved in the actual electoral process.

The town hall meeting was the best attended so far with every known Peoples Democratic Party, P DP, stalwarts in the state in attendance. The event was chaired by Prof. Peter Ejiofor, former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Awka, Anambra State. Others in attendance include the Dean, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Maxwell Anikwenwa, who said the blessings, Senator Ebenezer Ikeyina, Speaker Emeritus, Ifeanyi Enechukwu, Presidents-general of Town Unions from the zone, Traditional Rulers, High chiefs, Youth leaders, market women and students.
