The immediate past Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Maurice Iwu, has cautioned mischief makers to count him out of the controversy surrounding the proposed N74 billion voters’ registration.
Professor Iwu was reacting to stories in the media that he had engaged on counter-productive moves against a fresh voters’ registration exercise embarked upon by Professor Attahiru Jega.
In a statement by his Media Assistant, Mr. Emma Mbah and made available to Vanguard, Iwu said he had neither granted any interview nor issued any press statement on the raging controversy.
He said: “The handover note that was compiled before the appointment of Iwu’s successor and submitted prior to the plan for a fresh voters’ register was made in good faith.
“But we are surprised that some political pundits had started using the development to score a cheap political point.
“Professor Iwu holds the opinion that his successor, Prof. Attahiru Jega, knows how best to continue from where he stopped and it is in the interest of this country and our democracy to allow him do his best the possible way he deems fit.â€
