President of Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Aminu Maigari has described as untrue reports that the Federal Government and the National Sports Commission (NSC) were interfering in the day to day management and administration of football in Nigeria.
Speaking at the reception organized for the Falconet at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Tuesday night by the First Lady, Her Excellency Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, Maigari said the present administration at the NFA had been receiving tremendous support from government and had nothing to complain about.
Said Maigari, “contrary to assertions and impression in some quarters, the government has not been meddling in the day-to-day running of Nigeria football. Instead, what we have been receiving is support, co-operation and valuable advice where necessary,†adding, “we wish to assure the government that we have nothing to complain about.   We are in close collaboration on all matters and this is good for the overall benefit of the game.â€
Maigari commended the First Lady for her support which helped the team to become the first African team to play in the final of a FIFA organized football championship.
“The First Lady has surely remained a Pillar of strength for the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and the country.
Maigari also expressed gratitude to the First Lady for accepting the investiture as Grand Matron of National Women Football Teams. “This further underscores Her Excellency’s huge commitment to, and love of the game of football, and by extension, the Nigerian youth.â€
The NFF president also commended Her Excellency, Hajiya Amina Sambo, wife of the Vice President and the Honourable Minister/Chairman, National Sports Commission, Hon. Ibrahim Isa Bio
“The Honourable Minister deserves plaudits for the way he has brilliantly overseen the sports terrain since coming into office. We commend him for his constant support and understanding.
