Govt allays fear over Third Mainland Bridge

By Olasunkanmi Akoni
LAGOS—Lagos State Government has described as false rumour that the Third Mainland Bridge was unsafe and would soon collapse.

In a joint reaction by the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and Ministry of Transportation, it assured Lagos residents, particularly motorists plying the bridge, of their safety and urged them to disregard the false SMS message currently in circulation warning that the bridge was unsafe.

Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson debunked the rumour. He said after a visit of engineers to the bridge, there was nothing wrong with it and urged residents to go about their normal duties as there was no cause for alarm.

He said Lagos State Government had contacted the Federal Controller of Works in the State, Engr. E. U. Mgbemena, who also assured on the safety of the bridge.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, Mr. Frank Mba on Monday drew the attention of  residents to series of false messages being circulated by some phoney characters in the state.
