Gov Shinkafi suspends Emir of Bakura

Gusau—Governor Mamuda Shinkafi of Zamfara has approved the suspension of the Emir of Bakura, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Sani, for alleged impropriety.

A statement by Alhaji Isyaku Zurmi, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in Gusau on, yesterday said the Emir was suspended for allegedly misappropriating
funds belonging to Bakura Emirate Council.

It said the suspension of the Emir, who is the elder brother of All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, chieftain and former Governor Ahmed Yerima, was with immediate effect.

In a swift reaction, the ANPP Publicity Secretary in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Birnin-Magaji, said: “The suspension did not come as a surprise to us, because it was politically motivated and aimed at  Yerima.

“Infact, we expect more intimidations of our supporters by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government in the state. It will, however, not deter us from preparing for the 2011 election.”
