OWERRI—A former National Publicity Secretary of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, and leader of Igbo Question Movement, IQM, Mr Ben Onyechere, has said that no amount of cajoling can make Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State to dump
All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, for another party.
In an interview with newsmen in Owerri, weekend, he said,”the attempt to lure Governor Orji by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is not only a distraction but a mission impossible. It is unthinkable to imagine that somebody as wise as Abia governor who has just led his people out of bondage will want to go back to another coded bondage. The liberation act which was performed by the governor is unprecedented and can never be black mailed.
“This attempt has only succeeded in making the governor more popular because it has highlighted his electability and acceptability even by the PDP. It is important to note that Abia politics is peculiar to that of other states because they are very serious minded people who cannot be intimidated bearing in mind that Abia State is the conscience of Igbo land particularly with their antecedent of the Aba Women’s riot of 1929.
“It is now evidently clear that there were impediments to speedy development of Abia State judging from the rate of work that has been effected since after the governor took absolute control of governance. It is pertinent to say that the electoral victory of the governor will depend on the people of Abia and not on the powers that be. If for instance GoodLuck Jonathan wins the primaries of his party the Igbo will support him but it will be detrimental if any atom of intimidation is applied.”
