BENIN—THE administrative complex of the Edo State Customary Court of Appeal was yesterday in Benin named after Justice Isaac Aluyi (Rtd), the pioneering President of the court in a ceremony that attracted both serving and retired judges in the state, the nation’s judiciary and dignitaries from all works of life.
Justice Aluyi recently celebrated his 80th birthday.
Among those who grace the occasion were Justice Samson Uwaifo, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe, former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Gaius Obaseki, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, President of the Edo State Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Joseph Olubor, described Justice Aluyi as an administrator per excellence and praised him for the establishment of the court which has become second to none in the country.
Disclosing that Justice Aluyi became the second Nigerian to hold such a position in the history of the Nigerian judiciary after the establishment of the Plateau State Customary Court of Appeal, he said the pioneer President was prevailed upon to hold the position, which many had then described as a difficult terrain in the dispensation of justice.
