YENAGOA — Bayelsa State Government has reiterated its commitment to the October take off date of the South South campus of the Nigerian Law School, Yenagoa.

The location of the institution’s campus at former Bayelsa State College of Arts and Science,  BYCAS,  it will be recalled, was the subject of last month’ protest by the women of Agudama Epie, who instead pleaded that the land hosting the defunct BYCAS be used for the state College of Education.

Fielding questions from newsmen after inspecting work at the project site, Governor Timipre Sylva expressed satisfaction with both the quality and pace of wor, said government was very much on course for the October take off date of the school.

He assured that the renovation work being carried out would be adequate for the initial in take of students by October this year while construction will be completed next year.

Chief Sylva said Bayelsans would be proud of the school because when completed, it will be the best Law School campus in the country.

On the recent complaints from the natives, the governor said: “The coming of the Law School to Yenagoa is a major victory for Bayelsa and the host community is happy about it.

The siting of the school in the former Bayelsa at the former  BYCAS,  Agudama-Epie will add value to the immediate community and the state at large because there will be an increased tempo of socio-economic activities in the area.”

Government, he noted, was desirous of spreading institutions of higher learning to different parts of the state so that everybody would have a sense of belonging.

He added that government settled for Yenagoa because the authorities of the Nigerian Law School insisted that the facility must be in the state capital.

Chief Sylva, who was taken round the project site by a director in the state Ministry of Works and Transport, Mr. Erepa Efeke, was accompanied by the Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri, who is the chairman of Task Force on the completion of the Law School.
