Base academic appointments on merit —Don

By Emma Arubi
WARRI—A DELTA State University don, Dr Jackson Ireyefoju, has declared that all academic appointments in tertiary institutions must be based on merit and credibility and not on tribal sentiments, even as he tasked the five ethnic groups in the Institution to remain united.

Speaking at a get-to-gether party hosted by the Itsekiri Association of the College of Education, Warri, weekend, in honour of the newly appointed Registrar of the Institution, Mrs. Alero Urowayinor, Dr.  Ireyefoju charged the new Registrar to prove her mettle further to the management, staff and students of the school by going the extra mile in her administrative style to take the school to greater heights noting that “as a no–nonsense woman you should always as before remain strict and dedicated to your duties.”

In his brief remarks, the Acting Provost of the College, Mr. Sele Ebisine charged her to discharge her duties without fear or favour saying that he would ensure that the management team does not disappoint the Institution.

Responding, Mrs Alero Urowayinor in company of her husband, promised to do all within her official capacity not only to sustain but improve on the standards of academics and discipline in the school just as she appealed to them not to come forward for unwarranted assistance from her.

While appealing for their support and understanding that would make her succeed in the new position, she assured that she would carry everyone along and thanked the organizers of the party for the kind gesture.
