Alli advises Nigerian athletes

By Philips Adefioye
Former African long jump champion, Yusuf Alli has advised Nigerian athletes to limit their participation in European meets if they hope to stay in good shape for the Commonwealth Games.

Alli submitted that the athletes must shun unnecessary meets and avoid burn out if they hope to save energy for the New Delhi Games.

However, Alli was quick to add that for the athletes to be kept focussed on the Games, the National Sports Commission must give the athletes grants.

“This is because these athletes need to run in meets to support themselves. They have families to cater for.
“What the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, need to do is get the NSC involved in their programmes and let them know why the country’s athletes has lost their grip in the track and field events both in Africa and the world,” said Alli
