YENAGOA  — The Action Congress of Nigeria, CAN, in Bayelsa State has described as a “disgrace and show of failure”, the inability of the state police command to arrest those involved in the series of violent attacks on the home of politicians in the state,  including the palace of the traditional ruler of Nembe Kingdom, King Edmund Daukoru and  Nembe Chief, Mr. Nengi James.

The party said though there was a reported case of police engaging the armed man who  invaded the home of Mr. James in a fierce gun battle that lasted for over 30 minutes, the inability of the state police command to release any preliminary investigation report and arrest of any culprit in the last two weeks, was a clear case of under performance and failure by the police.

While the armed men, who invaded home of the former Minister, Edmund Dakoru, were said to have made away with valuables, including the staff of office of the Nembe Kingdom, the armed men threw the surrounding residents of the home of the prominent pro-democracy and human rights activist Mr James into confusion and panic.

ACN in a statement in Yenagoa by its Acting Chairman, Mr Ebikibina Miriki, said the recent attacks on the home of politicians should not only be a source of worry but an embarrassment to the people of Bayelsa and President  Goodluck Jonathan.

According to him, “the police have disgraced the President and have lost grip of the violent activities in the state. In the face of these series of attacks, the police are yet to make any arrest or prosecute anyone. The Police are yet to take a pro_active measure to check the rising menace in the state. It is sad, most unfortunate and highly condemnable.
