LAGOS—Three businessmen appeared before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos yesterday for allegedly importing 100,000 cartridges and 55 rounds of live ammunition illegally.
The accused (names withheld) were charged with conspiracy, unlawful importation and possession of firearms.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Peter Nwangwu, said the arms were imported through the border town of Shaki, Oyo State in February without a license.
Nwangwu said the Police found the arms and ammunition, including a Beretta pistol with Serial No. 825665, with two of the accused at the border town.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 27(1), 27(1) and 27 (b) of the Firearms Act.
All the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail by Magistrate Foluke Davies-Abegunde with one million naira with two sureties in like sum each.
Further hearing on the case was adjourned to October 29.
