Tin-can Customs rakes in N56.1bn in 5 months

Tin-can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) raked in N56,140,133,616.56 from January to May this year. N28,542,928,134.00 of the  amount was collected by the Command as Import Duty for the period.

Of the amount, the command raked in N30,216,937,090.00 into the federation account between January and May this year.

A breakdown of the collected revenue showed that the Command got N10,386,546,620.32, N10,898,082,583.23 and N13,089,240,316.00 in January, February and March respectively while in April and May, the command got a total of N11,265,043,398.00 and N10,521,220,687.00 respectively.

Similarly, the Command collected as Import Duty, N6,005,905,040.00 and N6,390,668,699.00 in January and February while in March, April and May it raked in N7,722,933,330.00, N4,017,853,691.00 and N4,405,567,374.00 respectively.

A breakdown of revenue collected by the Command into the federation account shows N6,306,837,765.00, N6,790,897,927.00, N8,113,339,918.00, N4,312,441,355.00 and N4,693,370,125.00 in January, February, March, April and May.

According to the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Austin Warikoru, the Command was given a target of N168 billion for this year which translated to about N16 billion monthly revenue collection.

On whether he would be able to meet the target from the above figures, Warikoru noted that it is possible and that he and his men would work towards this as long as there are cargoes to be cleared from the area under the control of the Command.

The Customs boss charged officers to work hard to justify the increment in remuneration by the Service’s management.
