The South West zone of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP has not taken any position on the controversial zoning arrangement of the party ahead of the 2011 general elections.
The position of the party came on the heels of adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan by some zones including the northern leaders which gave him the go ahead to contest the 2011 Presidential election.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Osogbo yesterday after the zonal working committee meeting of the party, the National Vice Chairman (South West) of the party, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo stated that the zone will soon come out with its position on the issue at the ened of its consultation with all the stakeholders.
According to him the zone would not like to rush into taking or making any pronouncement on the zooning arrangement of the party, despite the fact that some zones in the country have taken position on the issue.
His words “The Party in the South West would soon commence consultation on the Zoning issue and we will make public our position at the end. We shall consult the leadership and follwership of the party in the six states of the zone before we conclude on a particular position as regards the zoning arrangement.â€
“All stakeholders in the South West geo political zone will soon be called to a meeting where we will delibrate on whether or not the zoning arrangement should stand. The wish of our members will prevail at the end of the day,†he said.
He assured all the aspirants in the zone of a level play ground as the zone will conduct primaries in all the states within the zone to pick its candidate for the 2011 general elections.
Alhaji Oladipo appealed to all the groups within the zone, particularly Oyo state to sheathe their swords, adding that consultations are still ongoing at the highest organ of the party for amicable resolution that will be fair to all the parties concerned.
On the petitions rasied by some PDP leaders in Osun state concerning the Governorship candidate of the party, the National Vice Chairman of the party, stated that the report of the five man committee set up to look into the matter will soon be made public.
