LAGOS—Detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, have arrested a middle-aged man who specialised in kidnaping children for ritualists.
Surprisingly, the suspect, identified as Abiodun Sopeju, in his confessional statement, told detectives that he usually sold the children between thirty to fifty thousand Naira to ritualists. He mentioned in particular one Alhaji (names withheld) as his sponsor.
Abiodun, who confessed to have been engaged in this act for a while, met his waterloo two weeks ago after a futile attempt to kidnap a secondary school student at Ebute Ipakodo area of Lagos.
Arrest
The junior student of Saint Margaret Secondary School, identified simply as Olabanji, was said to have been rescued following shout of help by other students while on their way home.
Police sources at Panti, told Vanguard that efforts were still on to arrest the alleged sponsor. Already, the sponsor was said to have fled his abode when he got wind of Abiodun’s arrest.
Abiodun according to Police sources, “alleged that the sponsor always pays him between N30,000 and N50,000 any time he brought the children. He further stated that the children were used for rituals.â€
